Proud Mommy Moment

I do not share too much about my children on my blog so I hope that you will all indulge me today as I share this very proud mommy moment that I had this week!

My son Bryson who is seven years old approached me a few weeks ago because he had seen a news report that was discussing the lack of clean drinking water in Africa.  He saw children that were sick and dying simply because they did not have clean water to drink.  Bryson’s comment to me was, “Mom, I need to do something to help them!”

We prayed about it and researched ideas and organizations that he could become involved with until we came across the organization The Water Project.  This was the organization that we chose to support and Bryson had just the perfect idea how to raise money to build a well for a community in need… he asked to host a read-a-thon where supporters could pledge a penny a page that he and his older brother (who he recruited to the cause) would read this month.

He asked if he could have a blog to keep everyone updated on the progress of his reading and then he wanted to start a Twitter Account too… (is he my child or what!).   We have set up both of those things and we were tickled to learn yesterday that the boys project and their blog was featured on The Water Project’s Website!

My favorite thing about all of this is… they get it.  At the young age of seven and eight he and his brother Andrew understand that God has called each of us to reach out the hurting in the world and do anything that we can to help.  They know that they may not be old enough to travel there, or strong enough to dig the well themselves, or wealthy enough to cut a check… but they also know what they can do which in this case is read.  One page at a time they are making a difference in this word and there is no prouder mommy moment for me than to watch them turn off the TV so each of them can pick up a book and change a life.

I wanted to share with you the link to the boys blog if you would like to learn more about what they are doing and how you can support them:  visit:  http://brysonandandrew.wordpress.com/ to learn more.

Thanks for letting me share this proud moment with each of you today and I pray that it encourages you to find a way that you too can get involved and make a difference in your own special way!
